Herbert Alan Gerwig was a prominent American professional wrestler during the 1960s and 70s. A Korean War veteran, he began his wrestling career in 1954. He became known for his villainous persona and his signature finishing move, the brainbuster. He competed in major promotions like the NWA and wrestled internationally in countries such as Australia and Japan. In 1971, he turned into a “good guy” in a nationally televised storyline, which boosted his popularity. He was recognized for both his intense rivalries and his creativity and humor behind the scenes. He retired in 1983 and passed away in 2011 after suffering a stroke followed by a heart attack.
