Jeanne Poisson, marquise de Pompadour

The two episodes, each running about ninety minutes, span nearly twenty years of life at court. The story follows Jeanne from her ambitious youth and her marriage to Charles d’Étiolles to her arrival at Versailles, where she wins the king’s heart. The plot weaves together court intrigues, rivalries and shifting alliances, while also revealing the vulnerability of a woman who must constantly defend her place in a world hostile to her bourgeois origins.
